St Paul’s Bay

This old fishing village, in the north of Malta, has become a popular residential and holiday resort. The centre of the town remains much the same as it did before tourism became a major draw, although there are more restaurants, pubs and souvenir shops than ever before.

The waterfront, on the other hand, is where development is most evident. Spanking new apartment blocks have sprouted along the seafront, these are available as either short-term holiday homes or as longer-term investments. A new promenade has also been built, peppered with al fresco bars and fast food joints. Here one can also book excursions to Comino, go on boat rides, hire a speedboat or something slower.

With the boom in the tourism industry in the early 1970s, and constrained by its geography - sandwiched between the sea and a cliff - St Paul’s Bay spawned two suburbs: Bugibba and Qawra.
