Bugibba, Qawra & Mellieha
Bugibba & Qawra
Up until the early 1970s these did not exist. Officially two separate suburbs, it is very difficult to distinguish where one ends and the other begins. For the record, Bugibba faces St Paul’s Bay whilst Qawra overlooks Salina Bay.
Today they are Malta’s premier holiday resort, with hotels and eateries to suit all pockets and tastes. Pubs, discotheques, nightclubs, cinemas, bingo halls and a casino make up the nocturnal entertainment fare.
During the long hot days of summer there is swimming off the rocks plus a brand new sandy beach that was created in 2006. In winter, meanwhile, both Bugibba and Qawra are well endowed with shops to pass the time.
Bugibba is also the starting off point for most sightseeing tours, that can be bought from the many tour agents in the area. Here one can also hire a car, scooter or a bike; rental prices are the lowest in Europe.
